-okay, so first, put your litter box on top of your toilet for a week so your cat gets used to going onto the toilet to use the bathroom
- the next week, take the lid off the litter box (if your litter box does not have a lid, skip this step) for another couple days so the cat gets used to ging in a open area
- the next week, switch from the litter box to a shallow tub or pan with less litter so they wont be able to bury it (your bathroom will probably smell worse than usual so keep the fan on and try to clean the pan each time your cat uses the bathroom)
- gadually remove the litter from the pan and remove the pan from the toilet and i suggest, so that your cat doesn’t fall in the toilet, pruchase a toilet seat for toddlers (they make toliet seats that fit on your toilet that have a smaller hole in the middle so your toddler doesnt fall, but they work great for your cat), and just leave it on at all times for your cat.
- if you have multiple bathrooms, keep the door closed to all except the one that you want your cat to use, which should be the one that their litter box was origionally in.

I would never do that to my cats. Cats have been digging and squatting for hundreds of years. It is instinct to them–this is why many cats do not need to be litter trained at all.

If you were to force your cat to make such a drastic change, it would be like someone telling you that you can never use a toilet again. Instead you have to use a litter box. That sounds ridiculous and unreasonable, right? Well your cat would certainly feel the same way about sitting on the toilet.

Some people are successful in training their cat to use a toilet, but I think that it is very unnatural and even cruel. Doing so often leads to elimination problems. It may sound nice to not have to clean a litter box anymore, but how do you feel about cleaning cat pee off your toilet every day, and cleaning up other “presents” in your house?
